Disciplines
US Rucking recognized the following disciplines as defined by the USATF Bylaws & Regulations. Each discipline may or may not be of ultra distance as determined by the individual race distance.
Road Rucking
Road Rucking is a sport in which individuals run races on paved or improved surfaces. Races shall be run over courses confined, to the extent possible, to roads and paths the surface of which is improved. The traversing of non-improved or paved roads should be kept to a minimum.
Cross Rucking
Cross Rucking (X-rucking) is a sport in which individuals run races on outdoor courses over natural terrain. Races shall be run over courses confined, to the extent possible, to open country, fields, parks, golf courses, and grasslands. The traversing of paved roads should be kept to a minimum.
Trail Rucking
Trail Rucking is a sport in which individuals run races on outdoor courses over natural terrain. Although similar to Cross Rucking, encompasses a wider variety of distances and terrain, including natural trails with elevation changes and obstacles.
Mountain Rucking
Mountain Rucking is a sport in which individuals run races on outdoor courses over natural terrain. Again similar to Trail or Cross Rucking, this encompasses an even wider variety of distances and terrain, sections without maintained trails and with even greater elevation changes and obstacles.
Weight Categories
US Rucking recognized only Five (5) weight categories.
- Sprint weight – 25 Lbs.
- Military Weight – 35 Lbs
- Ruck weight – 50 Lbs.
- Heavy Weight – 75 Lbs.
- Century Weight – 100 Lbs.
Please note, some competitions use % of body weight, these are recreational events and will not be certified by US Rucking and cannot qualify for national and world records.
